set design
I’m experienced in designing environments from scratch, working with set builders and prop-makers to make evocative backdrops for product shoots.
production
I’m used to managing all aspects of shoot production from location finding, model casting to hiring the right photographer or designer.
art direction
I’ve been working with photographers for 20 years and take photographs myself. Orchestrating the chemistry between collaborators, product and location is the most exciting of my job. I’ve worked with web designers to build two online stores, producing content (photography and copy) and providing art direction (see links).
brand management and consultancy
At the moment I’m developing a wholesale interiors brand to be launched this August at NYC’s Gift show. The collection combines products sourced in Europe at trade shows like Maison et Objet in Paris with things made by talented designer-makers found in NY. When I’m happy with our samples, I’ll produce visual material; a catalogue and a website that really tell the story.
product development and sourcing
A core part of the new range is the collection of hand-woven linen I’ve commissioned to be made in Kerala, India. I’m working with artisans; glassblowers, ceramicists, weavers to create an interiors range with a tactile, handmade feel in subtle colours and materials. A compulsive flea market shopper and auction addict, I’m always on the hunt for thrilling vintage and antique finds. I especially love a bargain. Things trawled from markets and junk emporia often provide me with inspiration for new trends.
copy-writing
I’m a wordsmith too. My writing about design often appears in the Food & Home section of the Telegraph Magazine and I’ve written two books about interior design; Boudoir, Carlton 2000 and French Home, Ryland, Peters & Small 2007.
